Department of Eastern Medicine

The Beginning

Education at the Department of Eastern Medicine aims at producing competent physicians and surgeons of profound knowledge having extensive practical training based on Tibbi fundamentals with scientific knowledge of modern advances who can take up responsibilities in the medical and health services and can be actively involved in family welfare and National Health Program. Pakistan will not be the only country in teaching such courses. Many developed countries have adopted concept of alternative medicines. For example, in Japan it is called “Kampo” they have a society of such members that exceeds more than 10 thousand and 70% of its members are allopathic doctors. In neighboring India & China they have specialized hospitals where patients are treated with herbal medicines. In USA research programme upto Ph.D. level are offered on herbal medicines. Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan already prepared and approved syllabus and curriculum for BEMS. But unfortunately due to non existing of any regulations and resistance from allopathic doctors, it could not be enforced in the colleges. The basic objective behind the pioneer group of BEMS graduates is to provide a team of talented, knowledgeable and committed Tabibs who could become agents of change in the society by fulfilling health care needs of the masses with commitment to the profession and care to the patients using Tibbi knowledge and Tibbi medicines.
