Bachelor of Science in Microbiology

Bachelor of Science in Microbiology

Introduction

The field of science plays a significant role in explaining and proofing the life, mysteries, and discoveries. One of these fields is a branch of microbiology, that involves learning the life of microorganisms, which can either be harmful or beneficial. Approximately 60% of the earth’s biomass is comprised of microorganisms. Microorganisms are the most ancient life forms on the planet and they have a direct impact on our lives every day. They are critical to the life on the planet. The study of microorganisms is crucial due to their beneficial and harmful impacts on humans, animals, plants and on the ecosystem. All microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi and viruses are studied by microbiologists.

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAM:

  • The study of microbes helps students to understand the complexity of nature and society, which in turn provide many different health, environmental, social, cultural, industrial and economic benefits.
  • Students will have the chance to study topics such as: genetics of microbiology, general virology, microbial pathogens, infectious diseases, general parasitology and microbial ecology. Also, to develop skills in using and interpreting statistics and will be able critically analyse information.
  • Building a successful career in Microbiology, students will be working at the forefront of research in pharmaceuticals, food sustainability, agriculture, medical sciences and healthcare.
  • Microbiology graduates may benefit from various career opportunities, working as a microbiologist, biomedical scientist, forensic scientist, scientific laboratory technician, science advisor, administrator, researcher, or science writer.

Career Opportunities

  • Graduates will be able to utilize their knowledge in microbiology and other allied sciences.
  • Graduates will be able to apply theory and concepts in the field of health, industrial and agriculture biotechnology.
  • Graduates will effectively disseminate technical information using written progress reports, strategic reports, formal scientific written communications, and/or operations and procedures manuals.
  • The graduate should demonstrate a comprehension of the process of microbiology commercialization to meet financial and regulatory compliance issues and goals.
  • They will be able to perform their services in different Government and non-Government organizations.
  • The ability to express thoughts and ideas through oral, written, and computer communications.

Eligibility Criteria

Entry requirements for BS Microbiology:

  • Intermediate or equivalent (Pre-Medical or Pre-Engineering).
  • Minimum 45% marks.
  • Completion of admission application and supporting documents.
