Dr. Farhat Abdullah

Associate Professor of Linguistics | Department of Humanities

Dr. Farhat Abdullah is a linguist and Associate Professor with over a decade of teaching and research experience in Linguistics. She holds an MPhil in Applied Linguistics from Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, and a PhD in Linguistics from Air University, Islamabad. Dr Abdullah contributed to the DAAD-funded Urdu WordNet project at the Centre for Language Engineering, UET Lahore. This experience helped establish her continuing research interests in corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, language documentation, linguistic landscapes, sociolinguistics, and NLP. She has received HEC grants three times, including two Travel Grants for presenting at international conferences and the HEC Faculty Development PhD Scholarship. Her international academic experience includes CoLang 2016 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA, where she obtained certification in Language Documentation. She completed a research and teaching fellowship at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, gaining valuable international experience in both research and university teaching.

Dr Abdullah has been invited by national universities as a guest speaker on the digital empowerment of Pakistan’s less-resourced languages, which reflects her commitment to language documentation, linguistic diversity, and digital language technologies. Her academic profile brings together linguistic scholarship, technology, language documentation, international academic experience, and university teaching.
